This map, created by the Geospatial Centre, shows the City of Kitchener's road network for various decades ranging from 1853 to 1992. This data was derived from digitized copies of old street maps of the city. It is intended to showcase the change in Kitchener's road network over the course of this time frame. The road layers were edited from a previously existing street network shapefile for the year 1955.
To choose which years you would like to view, click the layers tab at the top of the page.
Each year that is available can be selected and viewed by clicking the box beside the name. By Default, 1853 is shown.
You are able to view street names by clicking the road. The table will show you the name of that street during the source year as well as the current name of the street. The current street name field is empty if a street no longer exists.
This map will show you Kitchener's growth and development as well as change in the road network over almost 150 years. The above block is a great example (between Guelph St and Louisa St on the map)
